? CLASS DESCRIPTION

Join our new instructor Erika for two 3-hour sessions to learn how to draft and construct your own made-to-measure, timeless and adorable shift blouse with a sweet drawstring neckline. This class provides the option of adding floaty sleeves to your blouse or opt for a sleeveless version, both of which are perfect for the incumbent hot summer weather.

Over two evenings, you will learn the basic formulas needed to draft a classic rectangular-constructed shift to your own specifications. Incorporating french seams, drawstring neckline and rolled hem, this one-of-a-kind project will be in heavy rotation in your summer wardrobe.

To make the best use of our time, we ask that you arrive with the provided measurement sheet completed. (We will send to you once registered)

And don’t worry, we will go through the formulas and their application together!

Drafting also requires a bit of trying on as you go, so please ensure you wear a top that allows you to get your shift blouse on and off easily.

? TECHNIQUES YOU'LL LEARN

Basic formulas for drafting both a basic shift and sleeves
French seaming
Creating continuous bias tape from your fabric
Creating a neckline channel for a drawstring
Creating a channel for elasticated sleeves (optional)
Rolled hem

? WHAT'S INCLUDED

Measurement sheet for taking and recording measurements required for drafting your shift. (These measurements and formulates can be used to create a variety of garments in the future!)
6 hours of guided instruction
Access to studio irons, pressing stations and cutting stations
A calm, supportive learning environment

? WHAT TO BRING / REQUIRED TOOLS

Measurement sheet filled out to the best of your ability.
Your sewing machine (in good working order) with power cord, pedal, regular foot and manual (just in case)
Pre-washed 1-3m of fabric (see Fabric Recommendations below for quantity support)
Thread to match your fabric
Ribbon or lacing for your drawstring neckline
1/2 “ elastic for sleeves (0.5m optional)
Fabric scissors or rotary cutter
Thread snips
Pins or clips
Safety pins
Seam ripper
Fabric marker or chalk
Ruler and measuring tape
Hand sewing needles

*NOTE: If you do not have a sewing machine, but know how to sew and would like to join, you can rent one of Wild Bobbin's machines for $15/class. Available as add on below.

? FABRIC RECOMMENDATIONS

Light to mid-weight fabrics with good fluidity and drape with NO stretch, such as:
Cotton voile
Cotton lawn
Light to mid-weight linen
Double gauze
Some non-stretch viscose/rayon blends

NOTE: This garment requires between 1-3 meters of fabric depending on your desired length, desired sleeve choice, and the width of your fabric (45” or 60”). You will also need an extra half meter for your bias tape.

If you need help choosing fabric, book a complimentary in-store pre-workshop appointment; we’re happy to help! Email hello@wildbobbin.com to book.
